More reading en voyage. How to Be Good, by Nick Hornby, has him switching his perspective to that of a married woman whose irritating husband suddenly develops an even more irritating change of personality: he decides to become really good. This means annoying the whole family by giving away one of the kids' computers, inviting a faith healer to stay with them, and getting the whole street to shelter some homeless children. Living with a saint is never easy. It's an interesting book, though not as crisply entertaining as High Fidelity, my personal favorite by Hornby. Still well worth the read. 4 out of 5.Friday, July 05, 2002
I finished off Dave Barry's first novel, Big Trouble, sitting in the main downtown park in Edinburgh, Scotland, on a rare sunny afternoon in July. As a vacation book, it met the necessary criteria admirably: it was entertaining, it didn't require many brain cells to fire, and it wasn't too long. It was not, by any stretch, a great book. 2 out of 5. |
